Does My Child Need Braces?
At every appointment, we will be evaluating the growth of your child’s teeth, so we can help guide your child into their best smile! Many people have crooked teeth for many different reasons. Sometimes there are habits involved such as thumb sucking or lip sucking. Other times there’s a genetic component such as extra teeth or missing teeth. If a child loses a tooth prematurely due to trauma or decay, the normal growth and alignment of the teeth will be affected and cause crooked teeth. There are several things we can do to help with things such as space maintainers, palatal expanders, and braces .
There are two different times when your child may need braces.
- Phase one braces is needed to correct anterior/posterior cross-bite, abnormal development of the maxilla or mandibular growth of younger children, usually 6-10 years old
- Phase two braces are for older kids and adult usually ages 11 years old and older. There are different types of braces to choose from: Traditional metal brackets and clear aligner braces.
