Are X-rays dangerous?

The digital x-rays we use produce 80-90% less radiation than traditional x-ray films! Many studies have shown dental x-rays have one of the lowest radiation dosages. Four dental x-rays are equal to less than one day of natural background radiation (sun, cellphones, airplane travel, etc). For most kids under 10, two x-rays are all that are needed for an exam! We will also use a special apron to reduce radiation even more.

Why are X-rays important?

X-rays are one of the most important tools a dentist uses in the dental office. They allow us to see things we can’t see with our eyes alone such as:

  • Cavities in between teeth
  • Infections
  • Growth and development of teeth
  • Diseases of the jaw bones
