Do you offer Sedation?
Yes! We want your child to have the best experience when it comes to their dental treatment. Sedation can be a great way to help a very anxious or uncooperative patient relax.
What types of Sedation do you offer?
- We offer Nitrous Oxide or “Laughing Gas” to help your little one relax. This is a very safe way to help your child relax during a dental procedure. It is our go to method for starting treatment on even the most anxious patient. Sometimes it makes our patients giggle, so we often call it laughing gas!
- In some cases we may need a little more sedation than just Nitrous Oxide to complete treatment. For these patients, we can use oral medication and Nitrous Oxide to help a child relax for a procedure. Your child may feel drowsy but will not be unconscious.
- Other patients may be very uncooperative and have extensive dental needs. If this is the case, we can find help the appropriate help for you child to be treated in the hospital with general anesthesia.
American Dental Association (ADA) information about Laughing Gas:
“Nitrous oxide, sometimes called “laughing gas,” is one option your dentist may offer to help make you more comfortable during certain procedures. It is not intended to put you to sleep. You will be able to hear and respond to any requests or directions the dentist may have. Your dentist will ask you to breathe normally through your nose, and within a few short minutes you should start to feel the effects of the nitrous oxide. You may feel light-headed or a tingling in your arms and legs. Some people say their arms and legs feel heavy. Ultimately, you should feel calm and comfortable. The effects of nitrous oxide wear off soon after the mask is removed.”
